about.
meet lydia, morne & huey
We are the proud pup parents of Huey, a miniature dachshund, who is the undeniable centre of our universe and the aforementioned wiener we like to take places.
Huey was (like many others) a COVID baby, and thus was forced to take on the responsibility of being an ‘unofficial emotional support dog’ on top of just a ‘cute pet’. We joke about it, but there’s not a doubt in our minds that this little sausage is what got us through the pandemic’s relentless lockdowns and periods of uncertainty.
So, at the start of 2022 when we decided to take a huge leap outside of our comfort zones and quit our jobs to go travelling, we knew there was no way little Huey was getting left behind. Now, almost 2 years later, we’ve travelled with our spoilt sausage to 20 countries, caught 12 flights, slept in 83 different motels/hotels/guesthouses, and met hundreds of international doggos along the way!
When we started this journey, we spent hours and hours researching dog travel online, reading government websites and trawling through off-beat travel blogs. Sadly we discovered that there wasn’t much information out there about exploring the world with your pet pooch; particularly when you’re starting in Australia. That’s why we created itookmywienerthere.com
To save you the late nights and the hassle of deep diving the internet, we’ve documented everything we’ve learnt from our year of travelling with our dog, the steps and processes required to make it happen, the dog friendliest places we’ve visited, the costs associated with bringing your fur baby along, and a heap more. We hope that our little corner of the internet can educate and inspire you, and ultimately help you travel with your dog too!
So grab the leash, Fido is coming on your next vacay…
